Parents as Teachers Program Assists Grandmother
Grandma Luisa has been enrolled in the Parent as Teachers (PAT) program for over a year while raising two of her grandchildren. She recently shared what it has meant to be a part of the program. “I have learned how to sit down with the boys and read to them more, and understanding how reading is so important.” She goes on to say reading has allowed the boys to express themselves, helps them to understand how pictures are crucial along with the words in their development.
When asked about her motivation to continue with the program, she responded; “It’s just easy. Juan is a better person, he understands the concepts. He’s learning how to interact with other kids better; when he goes to school when he goes to childcare.” Parents as Teachers program provides in-home family support and parent education that help parents promote child development. Through PAT increased parent-child interaction occurs along with enhanced family functioning. All these tools are crucial to setting children up to be successful. Because of you and your support to Child & Family Resources we are able to help children, families, and teens. Together we can build strong communities where children can reach their full potential.
